Our recommendation is to decide whether this is a learning, progression or wave trip before choosing dates. A destination that offers all three does not offer identical conditions for each rider.

Swell highlights June–August as a stronger-wind period and September–November as more variable. Vela describes lighter mornings, stronger afternoon wind, smaller summer waves and larger winter swell. A winter wave itinerary and a summer progression holiday may require different skill levels, equipment and expectations.
Vela describes more sheltered water near shore and demanding waves outside the reef. Sheltered does not mean uniformly flat or deep enough for a foil. Vela advertises an emergency rescue boat, but that is its operator service: confirm when and to whom cover applies rather than treating it as public rescue provision.

Ask whether your booking develops initial board control or foil flight, how equipment is shared and what happens in unsuitable conditions. A course description is a curriculum rather than a promise to complete each skill within fixed hours.
Vela offers hourly, daily and weekly rental formats, alongside beachfront storage with rinsing facilities and shade. Swell calls it its nearest airport and estimates about 25 minutes to its property; its estimates for Santiago (STI) and Santo Domingo (SDQ) are around 1.5 and 3.5 hours. Those are property-specific planning estimates. Compare flight savings against transfer time and luggage capacity, and obtain a current quote rather than using an old shuttle rate.
