La Ventana and neighboring El Sargento form a Sea of Cortez destination southeast of La Paz. This is a useful trip to investigate for winter instruction, progression and several days built around the wind. The choice of school and meeting beach matters more than a generic pin in the bay. Our recommendation is to establish your lesson format first, then choose accommodation and transport around it.
When to go
Start with winter.Keep some flexibility.
Official tourism describes November–March for kitesurfing; wing operator Baja Wing uses a broader November–April season with December–February central to it. These are related but different descriptions, not measured wing-foiling probabilities. Northerly wind is characteristic and lighter periods still occur. Do not plan every day as a guaranteed session or choose wing sizes from a seasonal label.

Water & launch choices
One bay.Different entries.
Baja Wing describes northern El Sargento options such as La Tuna, Rasta Beach and Hot Springs as sometimes having less shorebreak, while Access 2 farther south can be wavier. These are operator observations, not universal beginner ratings. Aqua Ventana notes rocks and a changing shoreline at its entry. Inspect the actual route into sufficiently deep water with local staff before assembling or carrying a foil.

Baja Wing advertises mobile beach selection, radio instruction, equipment and wetsuits, plus shuttle-supported downwind teaching. Aqua Ventana offers lessons and jetski tow-foil training. A further provider teaches at Bahía de los Sueños, a separate bay outside La Ventana, and explicitly describes offshore wind with essential jetski support. A supported clinic there does not establish an appropriate independent launch.

Equipment rentals
Reserve a usable setup.Not just a board.
Aqua Ventana publishes wing equipment rental. Ask for the actual board volume, foil and mast options, current wing sizes and the ability required for independent use. Confirm where rental equipment may be ridden, how assistance works and the damage terms. If a mobile lesson includes equipment, compare that complete offer with a separate rental rather than paying for both by assumption.

Compare a northern El Sargento base with central La Ventana around your selected school. Central accommodation can simplify access to restaurants and businesses; a mobile school may still choose another beach on the day. Ask the property where wet gear can dry, whether overnight board storage is secure and whether your parking space accommodates the vehicle carrying it. No hotel partnership or storage amenity is assumed here.

Getting there
Choose the airport.Check the last leg.
La Paz airport (LAP) and Los Cabos (SJD) are practical alternatives. Aqua Ventana estimates roughly 45 minutes from LAP and two hours from SJD to its property; your transfer depends on the destination and road conditions. Its travel page says a car helps with exploration and offers transfers. Specify La Ventana near La Paz, not Las Ventanas near Los Cabos, and confirm board-bag capacity before paying.
Beyond the session
A trip with options.On lighter days too.
GoLaPaz identifies mountain biking and fishing alongside wind sports. Consider those as independently arranged options, not inclusions in a wing booking. Leave room for shared meals and a non-riding day with your group. Winter evenings can be cool and some businesses use cash, according to Aqua Ventana. Check practical supplies locally; do not rely on old airline routes or undated transfer prices.
